IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PILGRIMAGE

PHYSICAL INFORMATION

Iona is a rural island with uneven paved roads, rocky terrain, and trails. The customary accommodations for differently abled persons including elevators, reserved spaces, wheel chair access, etc are not available. Pilgrims may be challenged by these conditions. Pilgrims must be physcially fit and able to walk several miles per day and climb stairs. The itinerary to Iona also requires strength, stamina and ability to walk and carry luggage(see Getting To Iona). Bishop’s House will provide luggage assistance upon arrival at the dock on Iona, upon request. Bishop’s House is a easy five minute walk from the dock.

PACKING SUGGESTIONS

It is VERY IMPORTANT to pack as lightly as possible, and to bring suitable water resistant HIKING AND OUTER WEAR for this week. The weather is unpredictable and can change quickly without warning. Pilgrims often bring rain jackets and rain pants, as well. Our Pilgrimage Walks cover approximately two to three miles. The island is also very dark at night. Bring a flashlight or headlamp. This is important for taking evening strolls.

INTERNET ACCESS

There is internet access at Bishop’s House; however, it is not uncommon for there to be service interuptions. If Wifi goes down, it can sometimes take several hours to be restored. Cellular service is spotty around the island.

MEALS AND DIETARY RESTRICTIONS

Bishop’s House will prepare wholesome, home cooked meals each day. Vegetarian and pescatarian are available upon request. Highly restrictive diets may not be available.

MONEY

It is best to bring some cash with you (British pound sterling). There are no ATM’s available on Iona. The small, local market may provide a cash back option.

ITINERARY

You will receive an itinerary for the week approximately two months before arrival. For now, please note: There are no sessions scheduled prior to the evening meal on Saturday, September 13, nor are there any sessions scheduled after breakfast on departure day, Saturday, September 20.
